Profiles in: Event Planning Mary Ullmann Japhet Mary Ullmann Japhet was no stranger to San Antonio when she was offered a position as director of advertising and special events for the 1993 U.S. Olympic Festival, which was being hosted by the San Antonio Sports Foundation. She had attended Trinity University and worked for KENS-5 and was familiar with the Sports Foundation's effort to win the bid. At the time, she was free-lancing as a reporter and field producer for several Los Angeles entertainment news organizations, including E! Entertainment Network and The Learning Channel. She was also volunteering for the 1991 Los Angeles U.S. Olympic Festival in the PR office. She hadn't planned to return to Texas so soon, but when the opportunity arose, she recalls, "it just felt right, so I took the position and returned to the city I love."
